APCON Issues Network Monitoring Guidelines For Midsize Organizations

As cyberattacks continue, midsize organizations must reevaluate network monitoring architecture to keep data safe and secure in 2015.

Wilsonville, Ore., Feb. 11, 2015 – Today’s midsize organizations face growing concerns regarding the safety and security of data processed through their networks. Although the need to monitor this data is present, all too often the time-stretched IT managers are not able to dedicate enough attention to ensure that 100 percent of the data flowing through the network is monitored.

APCON, a provider of intelligent network monitoring solutions, today issued network monitoring guidelines for midsize organizations as they consider their 2015 network equipment requirements.

“The constant level of cyberattacks and the battle to keep data secure means network visibility has never been greater for midsize organizations,” said Richard Rauch, president and CEO of APCON. “As we enter 2015, it’s important for IT managers to reconsider their monitoring architecture and identify readily deployable solutions to address the challenges they are sure to face in the coming year.”

“While network monitoring solutions can provide value to managed environments of virtually any size, they deliver particularly strong value for the investment for midsize companies,” stated Jim Frey, vice president of research at Enterprise Management Associates. “Using solutions such as APCON’s IntellaStore II to stretch and optimize packet-based security and performance monitoring allows midsize companies to be proactive instead of reactive and predict degradation of services and security risks to enable quicker responses.”

Powerful Network Monitoring Tools are More Accessible

A midsize company’s IT team has much to manage with envisaged growth of end points on the network as well as BYOD, mobility and cloud computing. But with small teams and limited resources, IT faces the seemingly impossible task of maintaining network performance and security. If limited visibility and inefficiencies are left unaddressed, the challenges IT teams are trying to tackle today will only get larger and network vulnerability will increase.

In a survey of over 200 technology and business professionals who participate in information security efforts in a wide range of industries and company sizes, including SMB, SME, large enterprises and government, Enterprise Management Associates found that:

65 percent of respondents admitted that they need advanced automated responses to keep up with security alerts, while 69 percent of respondents were “less than confident” to “highly doubtful” they could detect an important security issue before it had significant impact.

Previously only accessible by large enterprises with extensive IT budgets and robust network operations and security teams, intelligent network monitoring technologies can be deployed through an all-in-one solution designed specifically for the needs of midsize businesses. For example, APCON’s IntellaStore II gives network managers the ability to gather, collate, filter, process and distribute packets to network tools and use a virtual platform to host a variety of tools on one device.

To help midsize businesses prepare a network monitoring strategy to address current and future challenges, APCON released a free eBook including a check list of tasks to help the IT team get started. Powerful Monitoring for the Midsize Business is available for download online.
