LinkUP for PCI Express 2.0

The LeCroy LinkUP Trainer is a test tool for qualifying PCI Express products through Link Training and Status State Machine (LTSSM) testing.

The LinkUP Trainer is designed for PCI Express developers, to serve as an initial power-on tool in the early stages of system interoperability, and to provide a tool for logical physical layer testing for later stages. The LinkUP Trainer is designed to support both new Gen2 (Spec 2.0) designs and also Gen1 devices.

The LinkUP Trainer is normally used during development in combination with a protocol analyzer such as the PETrainerTM Gen2 Summit Analyzer, but can be used an as standalone unit for repeated testing of multiple devices.

LinkUP supports both Platform and Endpoint modes, and will support logical links widths from x1 to x16. LinkUP allows the user to reverse polarity on transmitter or receiver, to reverse lanes, and to introduce transmitter lane skew on a per-lane basis up to 16 symbols.

LinkUP also supports data rate changes under program control, including generating error conditions for testing, such as advertising only Gen1 speed then initiating a request for a speed change.

The user can force LinkUP to freeze in any LTSSM state including Detect, Polling, Config, L0, Recovery, loopback, Disabled or Hot Reset, and remain at that state until the user releases the state.

LinkUP User Interface

LinkUP includes an easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) that allows the user to develop and control test sequences, and to view system status and reports.

The user interface runs on a separate host PC connected to the LinkUP system via either a USB cable or via an Ethernet 10/100 port.

System status is updated automatically update at specified intervals.

Status reports include current operating width, data rate, link number, lane reversal status, RX polarity, scrambling status, and advertised parameters of the device under test (DUT), including speed capabilities, upconfigure capabilities and N_FTS number.

In addition LinkUP maintains a history of all prior LTSSM states that the system has encountered during each run, and provides this as a report.
